Itinerary: Machu Picchu by Car – Scenic Drive and Hike to Aguas Calientes

Experience the breathtaking landscapes on day 1 of our 2-day Machu Picchu tour by car, which includes a scenic drive to Hidroeléctrica, a delicious local lunch at Hidroeléctrica, and a 3-hour hike to Aguas Calientes.

On day 1 of our 2-day Machu Picchu tour by car, we will start the journey at Machu Picchu Reservations Office at 6:30 am in Cusco for a scenic 6-hour drive to Hidroeléctrica. Along the way, we will make a stop at Hidroeléctrica to enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch, we will continue with the 3-hour hike to Aguas Calientes.

Get ready for a picturesque 3-hour, 11 km hike on flat terrain to the base town of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will take you to your hotel, where you can freshen up and relax. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner in the town and prepare for an exciting day of exploring Machu Picchu.

DAY 02:

Itinerary: Machu Picchu by Car – Exploring the Inca Citadel and Surroundings

On Day 2 of our 2-day Machu Picchu tour by car, you have the option to hike or take a bus to the citadel. If you choose to take the bus, you will need to purchase a ticket in Aguas Calientes for $24. Those who prefer to hike should start their ascent at 4:30 AM after breakfast to arrive at the main entrance before 6 AM.

Regardless of the transportation method you choose, the meeting point will be the main entrance of Machu Picchu at 6 AM. Your guide will take you on a tour of the Inca site, sharing the history and stories behind this iconic place. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore the area on your own.

After visiting Machu Picchu, start your journey back to Cusco by beginning the hike from the citadel back to Hidroeléctrica around 10:00 AM. The hike will take approximately 3.5 hours, allowing you to arrive at Hidroeléctrica in time to board the car to Cusco between 2:00 and 2:30 PM.

The journey from Hidroeléctrica to Cusco will take around 6 hours, during which you can relax and reflect on your incredible experience at Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Cusco, you will have completed your memorable 2-day Machu Picchu tour by car.
